Pervez Musharraf served as President of Pakistan from 2001 to 2008.
Before becoming President, Pervez served as the Chief of the Army Staff from 1998 to 2007 leading the country through several Military operations including the Kargil war with India in 1999.

Pervez Musharaf’s reign as President was embroiled in several controversies and tension because he took the Presidency with a coup in 1999. However, the coup was not bloody.
During his leadership, he instituted martial law.
Despite strong opposition, he held a referendum in 2002 and extended his rule for another five years.
He resigned as President in 2008 and went to self exile in UAE and although he attempted to come back to contest elections, he was prevented and hit with several suits.
Pervez Musharraf is reportedly dead in the United Arab Emirates (UAE). This was after a prolonged illness. Pervez Musharraf’s death was announced through a statement from the Military that wished him well. “May Allah bless the departed soul and give strength to the bereaved family,” parts of the statement read.
He died at age 79. He was born on August 11, 1943.
He is the son of Syed and Zarin Musharraf. His family migrated to Pakistan after the partition of India in 1947.
He had one sibling, a younger brother named Shaukat Musharraf, who passed away in 2016.
Pervez Musharraf was married to Sehba Musharraf. They married in 1968. Sehba Musharraf is the former First lady of Pakistan.

Pervez Musharraf is survived by two children. A boy and a girl. His son is called Bilal whiles his daughter is called Ayla. Ayla is said to be an architect and is married to a film director. However, much is not known about his son.
